Beautiful hike with a great view of the Bohemian forest vacation area.
km You start the hike at the market square Aigen-Schlägl in the Waldgasse. Walk through the avenue and then follow the Höhenstraße, which leads up to Grünwald. Shortly after the end-of-town sign, turn right onto the forest path, pass the mill wheel and arrive at the
.8 km Michaelsquelle spring. There is a Kneipp basin below. This treading massage pool is used for natural foot reflexology. Watch out for the division of the hiking trails! Follow trail no. 40 to the right. The trail becomes steeper and steeper as it climbs through beautiful forest to the
.8 km mountain huts. Here the Mühltalblickweg branches off. Continue on trail no. 40, leaving the Adalbert Stifter hostel above you, and you will come to a beautiful forest trail after
.5 km to Oberhaag (836 m). Schwedenschanze - fortification, probably built in 1469. It was intended to protect against incursions by warlike soldiers from Bohemia and Swedish troops. Above the Haagerhof country hotel, turn right in the direction of Bayrische Au, follow a short stretch of field path, which leads into a forest road and then into a forest path and after
.0 km approx. ¾ hrs. to the Iglbach double bridge. The alluvial channel has been restored to its original form at this point. Show floats take place here during the summer months. You can find out the dates at www.boehmerwald.at. Follow the alluvial canal for a short distance and turn right down the forest path. Now follow beautiful forest paths in the direction of Bayrische Au. Follow the signs and the red-white-red markings until you reach the
.8 km nature discovery trail Bayrische Au (720 m). The Bayrische Au is one of the oldest Bohemian Forest high moors and also the only Spirkenhochmoor in Upper Austria. The Vltava Reservoir reaches directly to the border here. A short distance back on the forest road and further to the
.6 km asphalt road leading from Oberhaag to the border. Continue left, and after about 200 m turn immediately right again into the forest road, and after a short climb you will reach the alluvial road again. Here you turn right and come to the reconstructed
.3 km Schrollenbach lock (800 m). Show flooding in the summer months. After about 150 m you leave the canal. Turn left onto the forest road, which climbs slightly uphill and on which, after a short stretch of forest, you reach the
.0 km division of the hiking trails Schwemmkanalrunde and Waldsteig. Here you have the option of shortening the Waldsteig and hiking on the Schwemmkanalweg to Oberhaag and on to Aigen-Schlägl. Follow no. 40 and walk uphill through the beautiful high forest.
.0 km to the Bärenstein (1077 m) with a wonderful view of the Moldau Reservoir and the Bohemian Forest. The route then descends gently to
.5 km to Grünwald (950 m), a former wood chipper settlement. You walk parallel with Bärensteinrunde No. 41 to the crossroads in the forest. Take the path to the right and you will reach
.3 km Hochbuchet (920m) - magnificent view. In the documents of the Schlägl monastery it is reported that large pilgrimages took place here between 1762 and 1775. Further downhill to the
.9 km detour Liebesfelsen, which you reach in 5 minutes and which is worthwhile because of the beautiful view to the west. Back again, follow the markings that lead you across some forest roads, always downhill. Pass the robbers' cave, which is difficult to see in the thick bushes, and cross the asphalt road at the
.4 km Bitter Chapel. A short diversions along the Waldsteig footpath (no. 43) is worthwhile because of the magnificent view of Aigen-Schlägl from the Kalvarienberg. If you stay on the Waldsteig, you will reach the starting point of Aigen-Schlägl after
.0 km to the starting point Aigen-Schlägl.
