Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald

Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald, Oberösterreich, Österreich

The border, culture and nature are the main features that characterise Schwarzenberg. Today, the unique atmosphere of the small sculpture town is characterised by many impressive wooden sculptures created at artists' symposia by artists from all over the world.

The small village of Schwarzenberg lies at the foot of the Plöckenstein in the magnificent Dreiländereck hiking region. The name is presumably derived from the dark ridge of the Steingupf, popularly known as "Teufelsschüssel". Several well-marked hiking trails lead from Schwarzenberg to the Plöckenstein, which at 1379 m is the highest elevation in Šumava.

A special feature of Schwarzenberg is the "Holy Sepulchre", a permanent exhibition in the former barn of the primary schools.

One of the highlights of the Adalbert Stifter Museum in the old primary schools next to the parish church includes the world's only Stifter hologram from a satellite perspective, the "Ride of Witiko" and the award-winning Stifter memorial design for Linz by Othmar Schimkowitz from 1900.
