St. Johann am Wimberg

St. Johann am Wimberg, Oberösterreich, Österreich
In the heart of the Mühlviertel, in front of the Hochwald, there is an elongated ridge - the Wimberg.  The village of St. Johann, first mentioned in a document in 1111, lies at the foot of the Wimberg. St. Johann is a community in which there has never been mass settlement, which has preserved the village character.
Numerous hiking and cycling trails, as well as the ski area on the Hansberg in winter, offer holidaymakers opportunities to relax.

The Schnopfhagen memorial on the Hansberg commemorates Hans Schnopfhagen (1845-1908). Schnopfhagen was a composer, local poet and teacher. Until his death, Hans Schnopfhagen was a teacher and headmaster in the neighbouring municipality of St. Veit. He also composed the "Hoamtgsang", which has been the Upper Austrian national anthem since 1953.
