Natural heritage Spirkenhochmoor Bayrische Au near Aigen-Schlägl in the Bohemian Forest holiday region.

Especially during the time of the Iron Curtain, the small section of the Moldau reservoir that "leaks over" into Austria here was a popular destination for excursions. In order to make it easier to experience the valuable habitat in the Bayrische Au, the path there has been expanded. The adventure trail to the Bayrische Au invites you to discover the special world of a moorland forest from the perspective of the high moorland ground beetle "Cara". Cara the high moorland ground beetle has specialised in life in the moorland forest and accompanies the visitors on all stations of the hike.

Suddenly the vegetation changes, the path becomes damp, the ground gives way underfoot, pines and pines line the path. You now enter the Bayrische Au with the only Spirken high moor in Austria. The high moor area provides a habitat for a variety of plants and animals such as the Spirke, a relic from the Ice Age, moor birch, mountain pine, rush and cranberry, cotton grass, various marsh grasses and many butterfly species.

The start of this leisurely hike is on Haagerstraße on the right-hand side of the road at the large overview sign "Naturerlebnisweg Bayrische Au". The entire circular trail is 5 km long and the walking time is 1.5 hours. At the beginning there is a gravel road, then a forest path and the approx. 700 m long Prügelweg with platform and bench. The trail is part of the hiking trail Schwemmkanal/Bayrische Au No. 42 12.5 km and Waldsteig No. 40 (24 km).

Directions: From Aigen-Schlägl/North on the Krumauerstraße past the Landhotel Haagerhof and continue towards the Czech border. After the empty white house on the left, the entrance is on the right side of the road.

As part of an Interreg project, the path is being converted into a moorland nature trail.

Accessible all year round. It is forbidden to enter the nature trail in strong winds and storms!
