Impressive rock formations
Several rock castles tower high, such as at the Dreisesslberg, Bärenstein or Hochbuchetfelsen. This is the result of a weathering process that is called woolbag weathering in geological terminology. The Bohemian Massif was formed 300 million years ago. Precipitation water that seeped into the earth washed out underground fissures and caves, the decomposition of the granite blocks began, and the rounded woolbag shapes were formed. The Bärenstein is thus a result of hundreds of millions of years of earth evolution.
Walkable depending on snow conditions! For more information, please contact the Böhmerwald Holiday Region Tourist Association: Tel. 0043 5 7890 100! In winter, a snowshoe tour leads to the Bärenstein.
