At an altitude of 1378 meters, the peak is the highest mountain in the Austrian part of the Bohemian Forest, on the other hand it is the highest peak in the entire Mühlviertel and in South Bohemia.
Especially its distinctive location makes the Plöckenstein a special feature. It is on the one hand in the border area between the two countries Austria and the Czech Republic, whereby the border takes their course directly over the Plöckenstein. On the other hand, the highest mountain of the Mühlviertel rises at a short distance of only about one kilometer to the border triangle of Austria-Germany-Czech Republic.
The impressive high forest has disappeared since 2006. The storm Kyrill and then the bark beetle have done a great job. But a good one has the devastation - the great view, with appropriate weather conditions clear view to the Alps!
In winter to reach with snowshoes!
