Stahlmühle 4, 4170 Haslach an der Mühl
A Walkabout through the weavers’ town will take you to the most interesting places of Haslach.
You will find out much about the historical conditions as well as contemporary life of the town.
The symbiosis of tradition and future is obvious at every turn: the detached church spire that was once a fortified tower, opposite modern architecture and accents for stimulating the town centre. Tiny winding streets on “Stelzen” which are filled with thousands of people during the Weavers’ Market every year. Adjoining is the impressive building complex of the former Vonwiller factory that has been serving as a modern centre for art, culture and services since the insolvency of the famous textile company.
There is the passageway to Windgasse through the Old Tower which used to be part of the town’s fortification. Today there are no more threats from outside - now that the Iron Curtain has fallen, Haslach lies in a new geopolitical centre, in the border triangle of Austria, Bavaria and Czech Republic.
All these facets are explained in a tour through the times in an entertaining and fascinating manner. Half an hour before the start of the Walkabout there is the possibility to ascend the Church Spire. One has a marvellous view over the town and its surroundings from the gallery.
