This trail leads you up to Piberstein Castle, which was built around 1200. Magnificent views are offered to you on this trail.

0 km You march from the starting point church and the "century loom" along Leonfeldner Straße and past the cemetery. Do not take the road to Traberg, but continue straight ahead. Shortly afterwards, do not overlook the turn-off to the right into Burgweg. It is still before the Wagner butcher's shop.
Now a steep ascent follows, past the Traxler joinery. Stay on Burgweg, continue straight ahead and leave Güterweg Altenschlag.
At the large beech tree, keep left and walk past the row of houses. The asphalt road ends here and a beautiful forest path begins. At the end of the forest, a bench invites you to take a break. Always with the castle in sight, walk along a beautiful meadow path towards the ...

1.4 km ... farmstead. Here the path joins the asphalted access road before turning left shortly afterwards and continuing along the meadow path. Cross the farm track. Now you only have a short, uphill stretch along a row of bushes ahead of you until you reach the castle.

2.1 km Piberstein Castle was built around 1200 by the brothers Ruga and Arnold von Piber as a late Gothic tower castle. In 1364 the Piber family died out and several owners changed hands. In 1894 the castle passed into the possession of Countess Olimpia Revetera, the great-grandmother of the current owner. The castle has been renovated. Numerous cultural events now take place every year in the historic ambience.
At the castle, pass the resting bench on the left until you reach the road Helfenberg-Traberg. Now turn left and follow this road for a short while before you turn into the Güterweg Altenschlag. Now this little-used road accompanies you all the way to Helfenberg.
The effort of the ascent and the asphalt path that now follows leading downwards is amply rewarded by the magnificent view. At the beginning of the small ...

3.4 km ... village of Altenschlag (beautiful chapel in the centre of the village), take the path to the left and pass the fire engine house on the road. The trail markings bring you to the ...

4.4 km ... Village of Thurnerschlag. After about 100 m you will reach a fork in the road. The signpost on the opposite barn points to the right. There is also a small chapel "Holy Mary pray for us" on the right-hand side of the path. Always downhill, the path now leads you back to ...

6.2 km ... Helfenberg, the traditional craft village that originated as a settlement in 1225.
