Short cross-border (Czech Republic) cycle route in the Bohemian Forest holiday region! Cross-border (travel documents). Short bicycle tour with a short, steep ascent and very little traffic. Asphalt and forestry roads.
0 km Oberhaag. Take the municipal road towards the Diendorf/Kyselov border crossing. Don’t miss the right hand turn to the Alluvial Canal bicycle route after 2.5 km. Now leisurely peddle along the level, gravel forestry road past Glöckl Lock to the
6 km Iglbach Creek/Doppelbrücke Bridge. During the summer months, this is where logs are floated down the Canal like in the old days (dates at www.boehmerwald.at). The following section to Rosenhügel/Koranda is where engineer Rosenauer (forestry engineer under Prince Schwarzenberg) proved that the Canal would be able to overcome the main water divide between the Danube and the Vltava/Elbe Rivers. After a successful trial, Rosenauer reported happily: “Since the snow has already melted in the St. Thomas area, I will start with 80 people on 4 May, 1789.”
7.6 km at Rosenhügel/Koranda (large crossroads, shelter) take a left onto the broken-up asphalt road and continue downhill to the depression. At the crossroads, take a left and you will reach the
shores of the Lipno Reservoir after 11.5 km. In 1957, the Vltava River was dammed at Lipno to operate a hydro power plant. Many towns sunk beneath the water. Cross the dam and you will see Bayrische Au on the left side (raised bog area). The road will reach a crossroads. If you were to go straight, you would reach Přední Zvonková, if you chose the right path the Kyselov - Dolni Vlatavice ferry. However, you should turn left. You will then pass a former Czech customs building and after that, the
14.5 km Diendorf border crossing. A short, steep ascent awaits, after which the Canal road passes the municipal road. Go straight and the asphalt road will reach your starting point
