Dyeing fabrics with vegetable dyes
Workshop with Cornelia Blümli (CH)
In this course we will dye fabrics made of wool, silk, cotton and linen with vegetable dyes.
To obtain solid and strong colours, the materials are stained before dyeing. We will dye with the classic dye plants such as madder, wau, bluewood and cochineal (insect), as well as with plants that we can find in our kitchen and garden. In addition, an organic indigo dye is prepared to obtain blue. We will expand our colour palette by over-dyeing, mixing and finishing with iron.
We will create a colour sample palette with fabrics made of wool, silk, cotton and linen. In between, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with shibori techniques to create patterned fabrics.
