In the past, monasteries and religious centres played an important role in preserving and writing down herbal knowledge. Probably the best-known representative - Hildegard von Bingen - is still extremely well-known and popular today. But are the traditional recipes from this period still valid today or are they long outdated? What were the concepts of illness and health at the time and what role did faith and superstition play? We analyse, try out and dare to reinterpret them in a contemporary way. During a visit to the abbey library with a special guided tour by Prior Petrus, we will get to know historical herbal books and hear anecdotes about the former pharmacy of Schlägl Abbey. Depending on the weather, the seminar will take place in and around the abbey; the outdoor programme will be limited to short walks in the surrounding area. Participants receive a script, all materials used are provided by the course instructor, the products produced are tasted on site or can be taken home. No previous knowledge is necessary.
