Guided tour of the Mechanical Sound Factory for groups of 15 people or more

In the museum Mechanical Sound Factory you will be entertained by curious musical instruments, pompous orchestrions, whirring barrel organs, delicate music boxes, elegant gramophones, original back pianos, lovingly designed barrel organs and much more. 150 exhibits from the Baroque to the present day convey nostalgia, fascinating technology and the best musical entertainment. They were collected by the former Haslach weaving mill owner Erwin Rechberger and purchased by the province of Upper Austria for the Mechanical Sound Factory in 2005.
In the past, they provided the right music for all occasions - in parlours, dance halls, coffee houses and inns, at folk festivals and fairs. To this day, they are a feast for the ears and eyes and amaze visitors with their ingenious controls using punched cards or pin rollers.
Embedded in atmospheric experience rooms and provided with the necessary portion of additional information, visitors not only learn about the music history and technical details of these sounding marvels, but can also immerse themselves in the moods and entertainment possibilities of earlier times with the help of tongue-in-cheek quotes and selected music samples. The instruments are played and their inner workings demonstrated as part of a guided tour.
