Haslach an der Mühl Textile Centre in the Bohemian Forest Holiday Region

The Vonwiller linen weaving mill was in business for 180 years before it ceased operations in 1999. The textile heritage of the town was upheld and lived in the years following the closure. The best proof of this is the new Haslach Textile Centre. The concept of the centre is based on four pillars: textile history and culture, production and training. Many competent partners were recruited for the co-operation. The traditional weaving museum was founded 40 years ago in Haslach and shines in new splendour at its new location. In addition to precious artefacts documenting Mühlviertel's textile history, there is also an archive with wonderful historical pattern books. A special exhibit - the box mangle from around 1825 - is located in the outdoor area of the facility, surrounded by the dye garden, where the typical plants that give the colourful fabrics their colour grow. The Textile Culture Haslach Association has also been in existence for over 20 years. Every year, the volunteers organise the weaving market with almost a hundred exhibitors and thousands of visitors, and organise textile courses for beginners and experts alike. The Textile Centre Haslach is well on the way to becoming a centre of excellence for textile experts. One focus is on research and training.  "Shuttle" is the name of the courses offered in cooperation with the University of Art and Design Linz. What is taught in theory is of course also put into practice. The Textile Centre is also very productive in other ways. The alom wolle manufactory demonstrates the production chain from regional sheep's wool to the end product directly in the centre and the weaving workshop produces high-quality small series with individual designs.
