Altenfelden

Altenfelden, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The municipality of Altenfelden is situated on a ridge between the Kleine and Große Mühl rivers and offers wonderful views thanks to this location. The area came under the sovereignty of the Passau family in 1010 through a gift from King Henry I. The parish of "Velden" is mentioned in 1242. The word Altenfelden first appears in a document in 1255. With the name change, the parish was divided into Altenfelden and Neufelden. Due to its altitude, Altenfelden repeatedly suffered great destruction and plundering, especially during the wars.

Altenfelden, with its indoor riding arena, has been the centre of equestrian and driving sports in the Mühlviertel since the 1970s. Every year in June, international riding and driving competitions are held here.
No two days are the same at Altenfelden Zoo - over 1000 animals from more than 200 species make sure of that. Covering an area of 80 hectares, it is one of the largest zoos in Austria. A visit is worthwhile at any time of year.
