Hiking trailsYou can find very beautiful promenades and hiking trails in the following villages of the Bohemian Forest holiday region: Aigen-SchläglWaldsteig – (The Timbered Path) a gentle ramble 3.4 km ~ 1 hour The trail visits the Michael’s well and passes by several religious spots and provides beautiful views over Aigen. You will find a shielded area with excercise-instructions and some benches to rest as you go along the road. Starting point: centre of Aigen, trail-nr. 43
Schlägler Rundweg (The Schlägl Round) 8.5 km ~ 2.5 hours The trail runs to the south of Schlägl and leads up to surrounding highs that provide glorious views to the north over the valley of the„Große Mühl“ river, with the Schlägl monastry and the hills of Bohemian Forest in the background. Starting point: Schlägl monastery, trail-nr. 45
Bärensteinrunde (The Bärenstein Round) 11.5 km ~ 3.5 hours Starting from the centre of Aigen the trail passes a little avenue, a neat beech grove, the font „Michaelsquelle“ and the rock formation „Räuberhöhle“ (robber’s cave). This circular walk takes in a succession of notable viewing points including Liebesfelsen (love rock), Hochbuchet and Bärenstein (amazing view over the Vlatava reservoir). Mühltalblickweg 12.4 km ~ 4 hours Providing fine views over the valley of the „Große Mühl“ river, this winding route crosses over woodland and meadows and beautiful landscape. Starting point: centre of Aigen, trail-nr. 44
Schwemmkanalrunde 12.8 km ~ 4 hours Highlights of this trail include reconstructed parts of the Schwarzenberg wood-float-channel and the spirke highmoor „Bayrische Au“ with its stunning scenery. The trail crosses through peaceful woodlands and idyllic villages. Starting point: guesthouse Haagerhof in Oberhaag, trail-nr. 42
Waldsteig – a strenuous hike 24.2 km ~ 7.5 hours Beginning in the centre of Aigen this trail links the most beautiful and interesting spots of Aigen like reconstructed parts of the Schwarzenberg wood-float-channel, the spirke highmoor „Bayrische Au“ and the „Bärenstein“ viewing point. Starting point: centre of Aigen, trail-nr. 40
HaslachNaturerlebnisweg 4 km ~ 1.5 hours This nature-experience-trail is a gentle walk within a sheltered landscape. There is information and suggestions concerning the „nature experience“ theme, trail-nr. 79
Haslacher Rundumweg (The Haslach Round) 4.9 km ~ 1.5 hours The gentle circular trail runs through the picturesque village of Haslach with its romantic, narrow winding streets. It passes the preserved remains of the medieval curtain wall, a charming Late Gothic church and the oil mill of Haslach, which was established 500 years ago. Starting point: centre of Haslach, trail-nr. 75
Michlweg 11.5 km ~ 3 hours A lovely walk passing through woodland and lush green valleys of the rivers „Große Mühl“ and „Steinerne Mühl“. It has only a few steep parts. Starting point: centre of Haslach, trail-nr. 76
Tanzbodenweg 12 km ~ 4 hours Highlights of this trail include gorgeous views over the rolling land of the Mühlviertel. The walk circles around the beautiful Tanzboden hill and takes you to the chapel „Heiligenwasser“ (holy water). Starting point: centre of Haslach, trail-nr. 77
Steilstufenweg (The Scarp Way) 16 km ~ 5 hours This walkd allows you to enjoy striking views over Haslach and Castle Lichtenau and explore the scarp of the Schwarzenberg wood-float-channel where the logs once rushed down with great roar. It also takes you past the Furtmühle mill where ancient trade routes (such as the salt way) crossed in former times. Starting point: centre of Haslach, trail-nr. 78
HelfenbergAhorner Rundweg (The Ahorn Round) 4.4 km ~ 1.5 hours Notable highlights of this circular trail is the Late Gothic Castle Piberstein. Besides There are also some fantastic views over the tranquil beauty of the local landscape. Starting point: at the car park „Naturfabrik Ahorn“, trail-nr. 88
Schaukelweg (The Swing Way) 5.7 km ~ 2 hours Along the gentle circular trail, many original swings and see-saws give wanderers and especially families the opportunity to relax, play and sway in the rolling land of the Mühlviertel. Starting point: at the church of Helfenberg,
Burg Weg (The Castle Way) 6.2 km ~ 2 hours The trail leads you up to the impressive castle of Piberstein and provides beautiful views over the lovely scenery. Starting point: at the church of Helfenberg, trail-nr. 87
3 Themen Weg (3 Themes Way) 14 km ~ 4.25 hours This trail features a great deal of amusement and recreation including plenty of shielded spots with funny, earnest and witty sayings which make it a walking-tour of variety. There are a number of original and creative seating-arrangements, for example an oversized chair. Starting point: at the church of Helfenberg, trail-nr. 85
JulbachGuckerweg (The Telescope Trail) 12.8 km ~ 3.5-4 hours This is a trail with many fine scenic details including gently rolling hills in the southern area and densely wooded regions of the deep green Bohemian Forest in the north. To take a closer look at the area’s awesome beauty a number of gadgets similar to telescopes have been installed providing uninterrupted panoramic views of the breath-taking surrounding landscapes. Starting point: either at the church of Julbach or the village Niederkraml, trail-nr. 7
Kohlstattrunde 14.8 km ~ 4.5 -5 hours This a trail of recurrent fabulous views which passes the Böhmerwald golf course and crosses areas close to the border of Germany. Starting point: either at the guesthouse Hofer in Julbach or at the guesthouse Greiner in Kohlstatt, trail-nr. 9
Weiselweg 8.1 km ~ 2.5 hours A Highlight of this walk features the healthiness of „bee air“ and a visit to the apiary Hüttner. 6 interesting stops along the way tell you about nature and climate in the lovely village of Julbach. Starting point: Niederkraml, trail-nr. 8
KlafferHolzschlagrunde 7.9 km ~ 2 hours This walk takes you along well-trodden paths through deep green woodland. It is also possible to pass with a pushchair. Starting point: either at the car park „Hochficht“ or at „Ereignishaus Holzschlag“, trail-nr. 25
Kräutersteig (The Herbs Path) 6.8 km ~ 2 hours Klaffer at Hochficht is well known for his Garden of Healing Herbs which is the starting point for this gentle ramble with few steep parts. Starting point: at „Kräutergarten“ (Garden of Healing herbs) or the adjoining church of Klaffer, trail-nr. 23
Kapellenweg (Chapels Way) 11 km ~ 3.5 hours Beginning at the village of Klaffer this trail takes you through the remarkable, tiny village of Panidorf and past the rock formation „Russenstein“ (Russians’ stone). Starting point: at the guesthouse Rosenthaler (zum Hochficht)
Hochfichtrunde 15.2 km ~ 5.5 Std. This easy hike gives you the opportunity to view the beautiful scenery surrounding the village of Klaffer. Starting point: at the „Ereignishaus Holzschlag“, trail-nr.22
Plöckensteinerseeweg 19.3 km ~ 6 hours This superb cross-border hike through some of the finest scenery of the Bohemian Forest and of the Šumava National Park gives you the opportunity to visit many natural monuments and places of stunning beauty such as the glacial lake „Plešné“ in Czech Republic and Mt. Plechý. It also passes the Adalbert Stifter Monument which is situated on a plateau above the lake, providing a fabulous view. Starting point: at „Ereignis-house Holzschlag“; passport and solid footwear necessary, trail-nr 21.
KollerschlagGrenzbachrunde 11 km ~ 3 hours This beautiful gentle hike leads along the border to Germany. Starting point: centre of Kollerschlag, trail-nr. 12
Hanriederweg 15 km ~ 4.5 hours This trail is dedicated to Norbert Hanrieder who was a famous dialect poet of the Mühlviertel. A highlight of the trail is the look-out at Ameisberg hill from where you can overlook the entire region as far as the Bohemian Forest. Starting point: centre of Kollerschlag, trail-nr. 13
Stoanaweg 13 km ~ 4.5 hours; longer alternative 17 km ~ 7 hours Highlights of the walk are many remarkable granite rock formations such as „Hochstein“, „Drucker-Franzl-Stein“, „Pfaffenhaus“, „Kühstein“, „Bründlstein“ and „Hüllstein“. The longer alternative to this trail takes a detour to „Hochstein“. Starting point: centre of Kollerschlag (Stein = stone), trail-nr. 11 and 11a
NebelbergNebelberger Rundweg 11.8 km ~ 3.5 hours This trail meanders through diverse rural scenery with beautiful woodlands and gorgeous views, exploring the area close to the border of Germany. Starting point: either at the guesthouse Jagawirt or the guesthouse Ramlhof, trail-nr. 16
PeilsteinVogelstimmenweg (Birds’ Voice Way) 4.5 km ~ 1.5 hours This theme walk features 6 stoping points, where you can listen to the singing of the birds and passes by places of interest like the ravine „Sausende Schlucht“. Starting point: at the guesthouse „Hubertushof“, trail-nr. 38
Hochbühelweg 14 km ~ 4.5 hours This is a splendid walk with the opportunity to enjoy wonderful views of the Kleine Mühl valley. Starting point: at the Raiffeisen-bank in Peilstein, trail-nr. 37
This trail is made memorable by its pond habitats and the panoramic views of the woodlands and rolling hills of the Mühlviertel. Starting point: at the Höhenstraße close to the church, trail-nr. 36
Rohrbach-BergPanoramaweg Rohrbach (Rohrbach’s Panorama Way) 1.7 km ~ 45 minutes This gentle ramble leads you past some viewing points from where you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views over the area of the Maria Trost hill. Starting point: at the guesthouse Mosthütte, trail-nr. 52
1. Mühlviertler Wandergolfweg (Wander-Golf-Way) 2.5 km ~ 1.5 hours This theme trail features a variety of creative golf-stopping-points including a mushroom skittle alley, a labyrinth and a roller coaster. Golf clubs can be borrowed from the guesthouse Kollonödt, from where you start, trail-nr. 55
Psalmenweg (The Psalm Way) 3.4 km ~ 1 hour This beautiful ramble with 11 stopping-points where psalms are inscribed on granite rocks, invites you to meditate. Starting point: at the beginning of the path leading to the Maria Trost Chapel
Weg Sinnenreich 6 km ~ 2 hours Beginning at the World of Experience „Villa Sinnenreich“ this diverse walk passes several stopping-points which test your senses and perception. Starting point: at the park of Villa Sinnenreich, trail-nr. 58
Götzendorfer Steig 9 km ~ 3 hours This path passes through landscape of wild beauty, meandering up to the Castle Götzendorf. Starting point: either the centre of Rohrbach or the car park „Hanrieder“, trail-nr. 57
Kapellenweg (The Chapel Way) 9 km ~ 3 hours Highlights of this walk are numerous chapels and shrines and the pilgrimage church Maria Trost, which is a special place of power. Starting point: at the church of Rohrbach, trail-nr. 53
Kirsteig 7.2 km ~ 2.5 hours This section of the Route of St. James from Český Krumlov to Santiago de Compostela provides plenty of beautiful viewing points and can also be chosen as a connecting path between Rohrbach and Aigen-Schlägl. Starting point: either at the church of Rohrbach, the guesthouse Mosthütte or the guesthouse Kollonödt, trail-nr. 50
SchwarzenbergMarientalrunde (Mary Dale Round) 5 km ~ 1.5 hours This circular trail is a gentle ramble through the woodlands of Klosterwald. Starting point: centre of Schwarzenberg
Glashüttenweg (The Glassworks Way) 5.3 km ~1.45 hours This cross-border hiking trail is a delightful walk in summer as well as in winter. Starting point: Oberschwarzenberg, at the guesthouse „Dreiländereck“, trail-nr. 63
Jagaspitzweg 5.4 km ~ 1.45 hours This cross-border hiking trail is an excellent walk in summer as well as in winter. Starting point: at the centre of Schwarzenberg, trail-nr. 62
Section of Witikosteig 10.7 km ~ 4.5 hours The path leads you uphill to the rock „Dreisesselberg“ from where you can enjoy a fabulous view over the entire region. Starting point: at the car park in Oberschwarzenberg; passport and solid footwear necessary.
Michleggweg 12.1 km ~ 3.5 hours Exploring the area very close to the border of Germany this trail leads you through the gentle woodland of Michlegg wood. Starting point: centre of Schwarzenberg, trail-nr. 61
This splendid walk explores the woodlands of the border triangle Upper Austria/Germany/Czech Republic and the most beautiful spots and places of interest of this area. It is worth-while to tackle the trail’s steep parts because they take you past the stone scenery „Steinernes Meer“ which is studded with granite stacks and is a beautiful resting place for your hike. You also pass Mount Plechý and the lake „Plešné“ as well as the rock formation „Teufelsschüsseln“(devil’s bowls) about which there are myths and legends. Starting point: at the car park in Oberschwarzenberg; passport and solid footwear necessary; no signpostings.
St.StefanSagenwanderweg (The Legend Way) 2 km ~ 1 hour This short stroll gives you the opportunity of discovering some mysterious stone formations such as the druid’s stone (Drudenstein), „Stefanstritt“ and „Teufelssitz“. Starting point: at the church of St. Stefan, trail-nr. 83
Adalbert Stifter Panoramasteig 4.5 km ~ 1.5 hours Along this circular walk you will find references to the famous poet Adalbert Stifter. Starting point: at the guesthouse Mayr, trail-nr. 81
Musikwanderweg (The Music Hiking Trail) 8.8 km ~ 2.5 hours Meandering through meadows and woodlands this trail gives you some beautiful views over the rolling hills of the Mühlviertel. Starting point: at the guesthouse Mayr
St.OswaldSteilstufenweg – kleine Runde ((The Scarp Way – the shorter alternative) 4.3 km ~ 1.5 hours The gentle, diverse stroll leads you to the scarp of the Schwarzenberg Wood-Floating-Channel and to the border to Czech Republic. Starting point: at the centre of St. Oswald, trail-nr. 70

Böhmerwaldblickweg 14.2 km ~ 4 hours Meandering through lush meadows and beautiful woodlands this walk leads you through the nature reserve „Torfau“ and past the golf course Böhmerwald. Starting point: car park at the primary school „Volksschule“ in Ulrichsberg, trail-nr. 2
Ödenkirchner Weg 13 km ~ 4 hours Following the trail leading up the „Zwischenmühlrücken“ you can enjoy the breath-taking view of the „Große Mühl“ valley. Starting point: at the town hall (Rathaus), trail-nr. 3
Moldaublickweg 14.7 km ~ 4 hours One of the highlights of your walking tour will surely be when you stand on the „Moldaublick“ look-out-tower and gaze across the Vlatava reservoir. Starting point: at the youth hostel of Ulrichsberg, trail-nr. 1
