Beautiful chapels in our holiday region
Chapel in honour of the home displaced sudeten GermansAfter World War II a little church was built in Schöneben (village of Ulrichsberg) by Sudeten Germans who were displaced from their former homes in the borderland of the Czechoslovakia. The church was inaugurated in 1962. Since then it reminds us of this sad background but also of the amicable relationship between the villages in Austria and their neighbours in Czechoslovakia. The patron of the church is St. Mary of Egypt.

Calvary Chapel and The Mysterious STONE "drosselstein"The calvary in the village of Julbach is a very beautiful one - the path meanders through silent little woodlands and provides beautiful views over the valley in which Julbach is situated. Numerous fonts emanate from the calvary hill. On its top you can find the beautiful little chapel built by Michael Schinkinger in 1843. Close to the chapel you can find a great granite rock with a mysterious cavity in it, about which there are myths and legends, here is one of them: Once the devil stroke terror into people's hearts at "Drosselstein". He fought with an Angel for the occupancy of a soul and lost. Being in rage he stomped down onto the ground and left a his footprint in the stone.

calvary chapel of AigenThe chapel is situated to the north of Aigen at the edge of the Bohemian Forest. The calvary scene in the centre of the rotunda chapel is the highlight of this beautiful chapel. The gentle ramble "Waldsteig Spazierweg" leads to the chapel.

CHAPEL of the holy waterFrom the font next to the capel emanates a water which is supposed to have healing power. The fist chapel at this place was built in 1250. The chapel is situated 3,5 km away from the village of Haslach. The hiking trail "Tanzbodenweg" directs the chapel. |

MAria HILf (MARY HELP) CHAPELVery close to the pilgrimage church "Maria Trost" you can find the chapel "Maria Hilf". Its dome is affected by a precious fresco in the manner of Bartholomeo Altomonte and depicts the obeisance of the former known 4 continents to the Virgin Mother. Some experts believe that it could be the chapel of the ruinous former castle. |

CHAPEL OF ST. MichaelIn Stollnberg (village of Ulrichsberg) you can find one of the oldest and most beautiful chapels of our region. The rotunda chapel was built by the famous architect Carlo Antonio Carlone (1635-1708). The foundation stone for this chapel had specially been taken from the grotto of Monte Gargano, wherein the archangel St. Michael reportedly appeared. |

Chapel (Mary's Rest) „Maria Rast“ The church is built on a dreamy hill close to the village of Helfenberg. You can also find the Holy Water nearby. The legend tells that in mediaeval times a noblewoman drank from this water and was healed from her paralysis. The chapel is situated close to the parish hall of the village of Afiesl/Schönegg. |
