Around the year 1200 this area was cleared of forest for human settlement by the brothers Ruga and Arnold Piber, who then built the magnificent castle "Burg Piberstein". Today cultural and other events take place at Piberstein! The castle can be visited on prior arrangement.

In Ahorn you have also the opportunity for beautiful hiking-tours. Don't miss to to stop for a bite to eat at the village's tavern "Ziegelstadl" which was probably buitl 800 years ago.

Ahorner Rundweg (The Ahorn Round) 4.4 km ~ 1.5 hours
Notable highlights of this circular trail is the Late Gothic Castle Piberstein. Besides There are also some fantastic views over the tranquil beauty of the local landscape. Starting point: at the car park „Naturfabrik Ahorn, trail-nr. 88
Burg Weg (The Castle Way) 6.2 km ~ 2 hours
The trail leads you up to the impressive castle of Piberstein and provides beautiful views over the lovely scenery. Starting point: at the church of Helfenberg, trail-nr. 87
